Cosmo Laera was born in Alberobello (Puglia) in 1962; he started his relationship with photography from an early age. In the eighties he began to participate in exhibitions and festivals, in Italy and abroad. Later, he started curating exhibitions and international festivals as well, an activity he has been pursuing for more than twenty-five years now.
His photographic research is focused on the relationship between vision and territory: the purpose of his works is to reveal aspects of immediate empathy between places and their morphology regardless of their function.
He created and directed four editions of Montedoro Photography 1992-1995 and nine editions of Alberobello Photography / Photography in Puglia 1996-2004 among other events in Puglia, creating a network between international photographers and small towns.
He collaborated on several prestigious international awards, exhibitions and publishing projects such as: Mediterranean 2005 International Bariphotocamera Award 2006, Basil Bari 2007, Besides the Stone 2008; from 2003 to 2012 he directed Corigliano Calabro Photography and the Vedetta photo industry on the Mediterranean in Giovinazzo (Ba) from 2009 to 2012.
His works were exhibited in group exhibitions in galleries, museums and institutions. Since 2006 he has been teaching photography at the Academy of Brera in Milan. He has previously taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari, Lecce and Catania.
